ROBERT PAUL STAAB was born to Paul and Margaret (Schreier) Staab on April 11, 1925 on a farm near Remsen, Iowa. When he was two years old, he moved with his parents to a farm in Gray Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota where he was raised and attended country school in District 70. Following his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1943, he helped on the family farm for one year. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany during World War II as an office clerk. After his discharge from the service in 1945, he returned to this area where he was employed as a farm laborer on a farm near Dell Rapids, South Dakota. One year later he was hospitalized in Davenport, Iowa, St. Cloud, Minnesota and then St. Peter, Minnesota for a total of 18 years. At that time, he returned to Pipestone. After his parents died, his sister moved to Truman, Minnesota and Bob moved into an apartment in Pipestone. In 2006, he became a resident of the Jasper Sunrise Village in Jasper, Minnesota. In July of 2013, Robert was admitted to the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center under palliative care where he stayed until his death on Monday, November 18, 2013.
Bob was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Michael Boock American Legion Post 6, and VFW Post 3814. He was an avid Twins fan.
He is lovingly remembered by his four brothers, Dennis Staab and his wife Delores of Richmond, Minnesota, Al Staab of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gerald Staab and his wife Rita of Egan, South Dakota, and Ronald Staab and his wife Bea of Indianapolis, Indiana; and one sister, Verna Slinger of Truman, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Virgil, Glen, Larry, Melvin, and Wayne Staab; and two sisters, Arlene Odenbrett and Mildred Odenbrett.
