Ronald H. Hansen

September 9, 1944 — October 3, 2012

RONALD HENRY HANSEN was born on September 9, 1944 to Donald and Helen (Barck) Hansen in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended school through the eighth grade in Hardwick, Minnesota and then attended Luverne High School where he graduated in 1962. He enlisted into the US Navy on January 14, 1961 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Tanner in Brooklyn, New York. Upon his honorable discharge from the service on January 15, 1965, Ron returned to the Hardwick area where he began working as a bookkeeper and truck driver at the Cargill Elevator in town. On October 1, 1966 Ron was united in marriage to Alice Ossenfort at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Following their marriage the couple made their home and raised their two children in Hardwick, Minnesota. Ron later went to work in the shipping department at A.R. Woods. After the company closed, he worked various jobs before becoming the Rock County Veteran’s Service Officer for the next 26 years. Upon his retirement in December 2009, he assumed his new full-time position of spending as much time as he could with family – especially his grandchildren! Ron went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Ron was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick where he served as Elder and was a member of the Zion Men’s Club. He was an active member of the Arthur Moeller American Legion Post 478 and was a past Post Commander, member of the Disabled American Veterans, retired Veteran Service Officer of Rock County for 26 years and retired member of the Hardwick volunteer fire department where he had served for 32 years. He enjoyed playing golf, avid Minnesota Twins Fan, and recently discovered his new favorite place, Cherry Berry, with his granddaughter, Taylor. He loved being around his grandchildren and following their sports teams, especially the Pipestone Arrows. Ron will be remembered for how he simply loved living life and taking it all in.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Alice Hansen of Hardwick; daughter, Theresa and her husband Terry Swenson of Pipestone, Minnesota; son, Trevor and wife Julie Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Taylor Swenson (special friend, Carl Johnson), Naomi Swedberg, Cody Swedberg, and Chelsie Hansen; one great-grandson, Carston; parents, Donald and Miriam Hansen of Hardwick; two brothers, Dale and his wife Lorna of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Gordon “Sam” and his wife Joyce of Hardwick. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Hansen.
