Roy Tirrel

March 1, 1934 — January 30, 2020

Roy Harm Tirrel was born on March 1, 1934, to Harm and Anna (Gronewold) Tirrel in Adrian, Minnesota. He attended Country School near Adrian through the 8th grade. As a teenager he worked at Fecker Produce in the late 50s. When Bayliner was just beginning, Roy travelled to Washington for training and was one of the first employees there. On July 21, 1961 he was united in marriage to Irene Wittrock. After their marriage the couple lived in Trosky, Minnesota where their raised their family. When Bayliner closed, Roy began working at the Ewert Rec Center and also for the Parks Department in Pipestone. He also worked at the Pipestone County Medical Center until his retirement. On March 3, 2017 he entered into the care of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where he resided until his death on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 29 days.

Roy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He loved going fishing, feeding the birds (and squirrels), and going on joyrides with his kids, and his grandkids. His vehicle was always kept perfectly clean, inside and out. He also taught the grandkids how to pound their first nail. He could often be found fixing and tinkering with things out in the tool shed or gardening. He enjoyed that time. During his stay at Good Sam he would never miss bingo, and you made sure not to interrupt that time.

Roy is lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene of Pipestone; his daughters, Lorie (Scott) Quincey of Pipestone, and Judy (Doug) DeRuyter of Holland; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh Olberding) Quincey, Kayla (Jordan) Evans, Mason, Cody, Alyssa, and Jordan DeRuyter; and one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Ray; and brothers, John, Heye, and Frank Tirrel.
