Ruby Sorensen

July 16, 1923 — August 9, 2014

RUBY ELIZABETH (MEYER) SORENSEN was born on July 16, 1923 to Fred and Ellen (Bruemmer) Meyer in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. At age five she moved with her family to Tyler, Minnesota. She was confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. In 1941 she graduated from Tyler High School. After graduation she worked at K & K Store and was a bookkeeper at the Tyler Co-op. On June 24, 1943 Ruby married Evald K. Sorensen at First English Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two sons, Terry Lee and Gregory Charles, and almost 45 years of life together. For 38 years she was a dedicated cashier at Citizens State Bank in Tyler. Evald died on June 10, 1988 and a year later Ruby retired from her bank position. After retirement she continued to live at her Tyler home until June of 2014, when she moved into Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler. On Saturday, August 9, 2014 Ruby passed away at Tyler Healthcare Center at the age of 91 years and 23 days.

Ruby was an active member of Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. She was a past officer of both the Danebod WELCA and Danebod English Ladies Aid, and a past board member of Danebod Folk School. Although she suffered pain from her rheumatoid arthritis, she still enjoyed dancing and bowling, and spent a lot of her time reading. She loved sports and loved watching her sons play in both high school and college. She often went on bus trips with Southwest Tours. Most of all, she loved her family.

Ruby is lovingly remembered by her son, Gregory (Jeanne) Sorensen of Fargo, North Dakota; grandsons, Colby (fiance Amy) Sorensen of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Ross (Jill) Sorensen of Victoria, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren, Jayla and Dax; and one brother, Glen (Joyce) Meyer of Tyler, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evald; a son, Terry Lee on December 28, 1967; her parents; two brothers, Ray and John Meyer; and sisters, Mildred Hansen, Erma Jaspersen, and Fay Koster.

Blessed be her memory.
