Sharon Strand

September 20, 1938 — May 31, 2017

SHARON LYNN STRAND was born on September 20, 1938 in Luverne, Minnesota to Bill and Ione (Quinn) Rademacher. Sharon was raised on a farm west of Luverne just off Hwy 23. She was baptized and confirmed at the Palisade Lutheran Church in Rock County. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then attended and graduated from Garretson High School. On June 1, 1957, Sharon was united in marriage to Wayne Edmundson at Palisade Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the farm for the next 24 years just two miles north of Sharon’s childhood home. While on the farm, Sharon managed the home and raised their three children. Sharon and Wayne later divorced. Sharon then moved to Mitchell, South Dakota and took EMT classes. For the next five years she would be employed at the Community Alcohol & Drug Center. Sharon met and later married Dean Strand on July 27, 1984 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. They later divorced and Sharon moved to Luverne, residing at Damax Apartments. She worked part-time at Glen’s Grocery in the Deli Department as a cook. She then resided for a short time in a condominium at Camelot Apartments in Luverne until 2013 when she moved to Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota.

Sharon was a life-long member of Palisade Lutheran Church. Her favorite past-times were cooking, sewing, gardening, and the sound of a good thunderstorm. Her grandchildren were the absolute love of her life. Grandchildren Trever and Tyler Edmundson spent many weekends with her when she resided at her Camelot condominium. Sharon’s reflection on life would be that it was about relationships, faith, forgiveness, and “living the Golden Rule”.

Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her children, Richard Edmundson of Harrison, Montana, Lynn (Gene) Coughlin of Helmville, Montana and Jon (Renee) Edmundson of Garretson; ten grandchildren, Corey, Tucker, Lacey, Travis, Shannon, Terri, McKenzie, Cooper, Trevor, and Tyler; and twelve great-grandchildren; Sharon is also survived by her sisters, Diane Nussbaum of Garretson, Kay (Gary) DeBates of Westbrook, Minnesota and Patricia (Daniel) Ressue of Spartenburg, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sharon’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staffs of Parkview Manor and Sanford Luverne Hospice. The care and concern shown to Sharon during the last years of her life was greatly appreciated. You are all truly angels on Earth.
