Stan L. Benson

Stanley Ludwig Benson was born to Stanley and Alice (Moline) Benson, Sr. on February 4, 1946 in Ludington, Michigan where he was raised and received his education. After his graduation from Ludington High School in 1964, he attended Northwestern Michigan College for two years. On May 1, 1968, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War and the Presidio of San Francisco, California. In 1970, he was united in marriage to Molly McCord in Reno, Nevada. After his discharge from the service, they resided in Ludington, Michigan. He enlisted again in April, 1972, and served at Fort Ord, California and Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone until his discharge in April, 1974. His third tour of duty began in December, 1977, and he served at the Presidio of San Francisco, California until his discharge from the Army on December 15, 1984. He then attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1988, he moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where he went to the vocational school in Pipestone for one year in the sheep production course, he continued this course work at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota and he worked in the sheep production unit there. He also took seasonal work at the U.S. Sheep Experimental Station in Moscow, Idaho. While working there, he was injured and went to SDSU for rehabilitation. After completing his rehabilitation, he moved back to Pipestone and took the truck driving course at the vocational school. Upon completion of this course, he drove truck for 11 years until his retirement. In May of 2021, Stan became a resident at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota where he died under hospice care on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the age of 75 years, nine months and 23 days.

Stan was baptized in May, 1980 at the Assembly of God Church in Petaluma, California. While living in Pipestone, he was a member of Faith Community Church. In his younger years, he was a member of 4-H Club and FFA in Ludington. While attending college, he was a member of the Campus Gospel Businessmen. He was also a member of Vista Service for one year. He enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He also enjoyed caring for horses and riding them, and he was involved in managing them.

He is survived by his sister, Julie Mantyck of Brighton, Michigan; one nephew, Bowen Greenwood; and one niece, Jane Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Marsha Greenwood.
