Stephen L. Briggs

STEPHEN LEE BRIGGS was born on October 1, 1963 to Alfred and Wanda (Bode) Briggs in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised in town and attended school. During his high school years, he loved playing baseball. At the plate he had a good bat and in the field he played third base. In 1982, Stephen graduated from Luverne High School. He then furthered his education and attended the plumbing and heating program through Jackson Vocational and Technical College in Jackson, Minnesota. Stephen completed the program and went to work for Doug Dammann in Pipestone, Minnesota. A time later, he made the decision to go to work at Swift Company in Worthington, Minnesota. After twelve years, Stephen moved to Owatonna, Minnesota and worked for a company manufacturing glass. In 2011, he returned to Luverne and went to work at Fey Industries in Edgerton, Minnesota. Due to his health, he was forced to retire a few years later. On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Stephen died peacefully at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 57 years, three months and 26 days.

Stephen was an avid baseball and softball player. He umpired many girl softball games and liked to golf. He was for the most part a homebody and enjoyed living a simple life.

Stephen is survived by his son, Dylan Briggs of Spirit Lake, Iowa; three grandchildren; mother, Wanda Briggs of Luverne; three siblings, Barb (Dean) McMartin of Luverne, Peggy (Jon) Kopp of Kenneth, Minnesota and Ronald Briggs of Luverne; brother-in-law, Doug Dammann of St. Paul, Minnesota; good friends, Bruce and Jeff; and his cat, Sam. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred; sister, Karen Dammann; infant sister, Karol Briggs; brother, Richard Briggs; niece, Penny Bradley; and two nephews, Cory Dammann and Brent Bradley.

A private family service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Luverne. Burial will be held at a later date.
