Steven E. Hup

January 12, 1956 — March 30, 2015

STEVEN EDWARD HUP was born to John and Alvina (Hoogeveen) Hup on January 12, 1956 at the Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised on the farm near Steen, Minnesota and attended grade school in Steen through the fourth grade. In 1964, the family moved to a farm south of Luverne. Steve continued his education and graduated from Luverne High School in 1974. He then drove a truck route for Terrace Park Dairy delivering milk door to door.

On June 3, 1976, Steve was united in marriage to Debra DeYager at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen. After they were married, the couple made their home on an acreage west of Steen. Steve went into farming with his father-in-law Bill near Steen in 1979. In 1982, Steve and the family moved to Ripon, California where he went to work in landscaping. A year later, they returned to his family’s farm south of Luverne where Steve continued the family operation as an agricultural engineer until the present.

On Monday, March 30, 2015, Steve went to be with his Lord at the age of 59 years, two months and 18 days.

Steve was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne where he had served as an Elder, Sunday school teacher and RCYF sponsor. He was very active in his vocations including serving on the executive board of Land O’ Lakes, Agri Energy, Hills Coop Elevator board, Minnesota Wind Energy and the Luverne Elevator. He enjoyed prairie dog hunting, golfing, attending car shows, and traveling; and he was a History and Discovery Channel buff. Steve loved spending time at the lake where he enjoyed boating and fishing. He had a unique form of dancing and lived life by a couple of sayings: “Go big or go home” and most importantly, “Love each other”.

Steve is lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie; two daughters, Andrea (Dusty) Kovarna of Sioux City, Iowa and Lindsay Hup of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Braylon and Madison; parents, John and Alvina Hup of Luverne; two brothers, Ken (Sue) Hup and Dave (Teresa) Hup, all of Luverne; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Annie Hup and Albert and Jennie Hoogeveen; and his father-in-law, Bill DeYager.

As Steve would always say, “Gotta boogie!” You will be greatly missed, but forever remembered…

NOTE: Steve's memorial service will be webcast live on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM. The live webcast may be found at: http://www.arcluverne.org/watch-live/
