Teresa Marie Smith

December 4, 1931 — September 22, 2015

TERESA MARIE SMITH was born to Joseph and Francis (Donnay) Cullen on December 4, 1931 in Woodstock, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. She also attended Pipestone High School in Pipestone, Minnesota. After her graduation from high school in 1950, she helped care for an elderly lady. One year later, she went to Lamberton, Minnesota where she attended the Lamberton Teaching School. After she graduated from there in 1952, she married Gilbert Smith in Woodstock. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Woodstock. In January, 1964, they moved to a farm east of Pipestone; and in 1965, they moved a half-mile down the road to another farm. In 1977, Teresa began working as a waitress and a bartender at the VFW Club in Pipestone. She also worked at the Sale Barn and drove milk truck. In 1986, she went with a combine crew that started in Kansas and then worked its way north to South Dakota and then North Dakota, and then again down south to Pipestone. In 1994, she became employed at the cafeteria at Pipestone Central School. She continued in this job until the school budget cuts of 2001 eliminated her job. In April of 2010, Teresa became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she stayed until she was admitted into the Pipestone County Medical Center on Friday, September 18, 2015. She remained until her death on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the age of 83 years, nine months and 18 days.

Teresa was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. She liked to bowl, play cards and fish. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening. Teresa was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins; before the games were televised, she would listen to them on the radio.

She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Morgan Smith and his wife Rhonda of Pipestone, Minnesota, Margaret Dibble and her husband, Thomas of Pipestone, Michele Gerloff and her husband Brent of Luverne, and Monte Smith of Verdi, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Heard of Woodstock, Minnesota and Leone Ackerman and her husband Bob of Hadley, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary “Mae” Scully and Audry Hermeling; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Scully and Marvin Heard.
