Thomas Hum

October 22, 1960 — April 27, 2013

Thomas Ray Hum was born on October 22, 1960 to Lyle and Carol (Huber) Hum in Estherville, Iowa where he was raised and attended school. After his graduation from Estherville High School in 1979, he began working for various contractors building overhead transmission lines throughout the United States. On November 20, 1985, he married Stephanie Wierzbicki in Knoxville, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Cresco, Iowa. At the time of the birth of his son Seth, they moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota. When he became employed by Union Electric, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri. For 17 years, they lived in Troy, Illinois while Tom worked for Union Electric. Tom went wherever the jobs were, including helping to electrify Amtrak on the east coast. Whenever and wherever disasters struck, he was there to restore power after ice storms, hurricanes and tornadoes. Receiving a thank you from the residents of these areas made the difficulties of his job all worthwhile. In 2005, they bought their home in Jasper, Minnesota. He spent his last years working for the MYR Group. On Saturday, April 27, 2013, Tom died at his home in Jasper at the age of 52 years, six months and five days.

Tom loved fishing and spent many years tournament fishing for bass. He also enjoyed target shooting and the outdoors. He always enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
