Vernon A. Hubers

November 21, 1932 — September 11, 2020

VERNON ARTHUR HUBERS was born to William and Jennie (Dokter) Hubers on November 21, 1932 in Doon, IA, where he was raised on a farm. When he was nine years old, he moved with his parents to a farm near Hatfield, MN, and attended school in District #70. Upon completion of his education, he helped on the family farm. On June 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Clarene Vander Bush at the American Reformed Church in Woodstock, MN. Following their marriage, they lived on the Hubers’ family farm and later moved to Pipestone where they resided for over 45 years. In 1957, Vern began working for several farmers and then Mouw Feed and Grain in Leota, MN. In 1975, he became employed at the Farmers Coop Elevator in Pipestone. When the elevator closed in 1993, he began working at the Woodstock County Coop. Four years later he began hauling fertilizer for various people. He also worked for the school patrol for a few years which he enjoyed greatly. He continued to do this until his retirement in 2007. Work was his life and he was a hard worker, always making sure he provided for his family. Vern passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the age of 87 years and 9 months and 20 days.

When the children were younger, the family enjoyed going fishing at a local lake or at a pond in a farmer’s pasture. He also enjoyed playing cards during family get togethers. During his retirement he enjoyed puttering around in one of his sheds and taking long walks in the neighborhood and stopping to visit with whomever he met along the way. In May, 2019, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, Pipestone, MN, where he enjoyed walking the hallways and visiting with whomever he could talk to. He also enjoyed the games of Bingo and Yahtzee and being feisty to the nursing staff while a resident. Vern was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Verlyn Hubers of Marshall, MN, Jim Hubers and his wife Rhonda of Sioux Falls, SD; and one granddaughter, Taya DeRycke of Pipestone, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clarene Hubers, daughter, Cindy DeRycke and two brothers, Al Hubers and Jake Hubers.
