Vernon Krusemark

July 16, 1919 — October 25, 2011

VERNON HENRY KRUSEMARK was born to Henry and Anna (Rose) Krusemark on July 16, 1919 in Pender, Nebraska where he was raised and attended country school. Following his education, he was employed as a farm laborer in the Pender area. In 1939 he came to the Pipestone, Minnesota area to help with fall harvest. He then moved to Santa Barbara, California where he was employed for 1 years at a dairy farm bottling raw milk. On August 18, 1941 he entered the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in France and Germany. Following his discharge on December 18, 1945 he was employed for six months driving a gasoline truck in Pender before moving back to the Pipestone area to farm. On April 8, 1951 he married Gladys Riemer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple first lived in Elkton, South Dakota and in 1953 began farming, first near Holland, Minnesota and later near Lake Wilson, Minnesota. In 1972 they retired from farming and moved back to Pipestone where he was employed by Bayliner Boat Manufacturing for almost 15 years. Following his retirement in 1986 they continued living in Pipestone until 1995 when they moved to Marshall, Minnesota. Gladys preceded him in death on March 20, 1999. Vernon returned to Pipestone, later moving to Danebod Village in Tyler. He entered Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in 2008 and on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 Vernon died there at the age of 92 years, 3 months, and 9 days.

Vernon was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He was a member of Michael Boock American Legion Post #6 and the V.F.W. Post #3814, both of Pipestone. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and listening to country music. He loved dogs and horses.

Vernon is lovingly remembered by a sister, Mylet (and Mump) Kenyon of Bigfork, Montana; sister-in-law Adeline “Sis” Krusemark of Pipestone, Minnesota, his nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; 4 sisters, Irene Purdy, Mamie Fallis, Jeanne Johnson, and Linnea Jacob; and his brother, Dewey Krusemark.
