Victor H. Hoeck

VICTOR HENRY HOECK was born January 3, 1923 to John and Emma (Fust) Hoeck on the family farm in Springwater Township, near Hardwick, Minnesota. He was baptized September 2, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick and confirmed on July 11, 1937 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. He spent his childhood on the farm and attended school in District 31 (Springwater Township). He worked on the family farm until he started farming independently in 1948. He married Cathryn Wright on August 28, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple made their home on Victor’s farm and continued to farm there until 1965. Victor then went to work as head shipper for the Luverne Truck Equipment Company for 15 years. He then was employed as a custodian for the Luverne High School for the next nine years before he was employed as a Green View worker at the Blue Mound State Park for a few years. Following retirement, he continued to work odd jobs, mowing lawns and doing light maintenance work. In August 2010 Victor joined his wife as a resident at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. On Tuesday, March 29, 2011, Victor passed away peacefully at Sanford Luverne Hospital at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 26 days.

Victor was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for 25 years, served on church council and other boards, and was a head usher for many years. He served many years on the Rock County Fair Board and especially enjoyed working with the 4-H Sheep Division. He was a member of the Rock County Agricultural Society and volunteered many places, including the Mary Jane Brown Home. Victor enjoyed being active in the community and was always willing to help someone who needed a hand.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Cathryn; daughter, Vicki Daggett of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two granddaughters, Jennifer Daggett of Sioux Falls, and Staci Daggett of Denver, Colorado; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George, John, Lorenz, Gordon and Emmett; sister, Alice Gundvoldson; and two infant sisters.
