Wilfred F. Stueven

WILFRED FRITZ STUEVEN was born on April 8, 1925 to August and Betty (Bahlke) Stueven in Sioux County, Iowa. Wilfred received his baptism on April 26, 1925 and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyden, Iowa. He was raised on the farm and attended country school and parochial school. Following his education, Wilfred began his career in agriculture. In 1946, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Quarter Master Corps. Following his honorable discharge in July of 1947, Wilfred went back to farming in the George, Iowa, area. On September 2, 1955 Wilfred was united in marriage to Evelyn Kitchenmaster at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their first home in George, Iowa. Two years later they moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa. In 1964, Wilfred and Evelyn moved the family to Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1968 they moved to Hills, Minnesota, where he continued to farm until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota in July of 1988. In June of 2013, the couple moved to the Tuff Memorial Village in Hills, Minnesota. On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, while surrounded by his family, Wilfred died peacefully at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 90 years, five months and eight days.

Wilfred was a member of St. John Lutheran in Luverne, Minnesota and part of the Men’s Club. He and Evelyn were blessed to raise their two sons and a daughter. When time allowed, Wilfred enjoyed woodworking, gardening and paint by numbers pictures.

Wilfred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; two sons, Harlan and his wife, Susan of Hills, Minnesota, and Paul and his wife, Marlene of Welcome, Minnesota; a daughter, Marlene and her husband, Joe Quincey of George, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ruben and Kenneth Stueven, and sister-in-law, Lois Stueven, all of George, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tanya Joy Stueven; parents, August and Betty; step-mother, Kathryn Stueven; three brothers, Marvin, Lavern, and Harold Stueven; and three sisters-in-law, Alma, Verna and Karen.

Memorials may be directed to Little Lambs Pre-School of St. John Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
