Alfred Allen Lund

August 1, 1931 — September 21, 2022

ALFRED ALLEN LUND born to Alfred and Margrethe “Ceal” (Ries) Lund in Tyler, Minnesota, on August 1, 1931. He was baptized and later confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church. He was raised on farm north of Tyler in Marshfield Township. In 1947, Allen’s parents purchased the bowling alley in Tyler and the family moved into town. Allen enjoyed working at the bowling alley and later managed the business. He attended Marshfield Schoolhouse and then Tyler High School, graduating in 1949. He also learned many life lessons and loved to joke about how his real education came from the School of Hard Knocks – life! In February of 1952, Allen enlisted into the United States Navy where he served as a medic. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and returned to home. At this time, Allen went into farming, raising cattle with his father where they partnered to form Lund and Lund, Inc. Later in life, Allen’s son, Brad, and grandson, Dustin, would join the operation. In addition to working the land and caring for animals, Allen enjoyed his time at the Tyler Golf Club. His father, Alfred helped start the Tyler Golf Club and Allen was involved in the nine-hole expansion and building of the new clubhouse. He also served on the Tyler Golf Club Board for many years. Allen was a member of Masonic Lodge, Tyler American Legion and involved in Relay for Life. While wintering in Arizona in 2009, he met his partner in crime, Marion Kuehl, while playing cards. Together they continued to winter in Arizona and summer in Tyler and on Lake Benton, play cards, and take cruises throughout many different countries. On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Allen died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 91 years, one month, and 20 days.

Allen was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. He was also a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards, shuffle board, golfing, bowling, and bird watching and had a love for dancing and watching Minnesota sports. He will be remembered for his generous heart, love for helping others, supporter of the Tyler community and his strong work ethic. He loved giving his opinion and delivered most of his comments with a great sense of humor. His greatest joy came from simply being with his family and working in the field.

Allen is lovingly remembered by Marion Kuehl; his daughters, Julie (Charlie) Zimmeth of Houston, Texas, Denise (Brian) Hansen of Faribault, Minnesota; grandchildren, Hailey (Logan) Gill, Dustin (Amber Buhl) Lund, Mallory (Terron) Olson, Brady (Ellen) Hansen, Chad (Jena) Hansen; great-grandchildren, Georgiana, Carrick and Margaret Gill, McCoy, Ellison and Callaway Lund, Liam, Vanessa, Chloe and Baker Hansen; nieces and nephews; and Marion’s children, Cheryl Hoflock of Maplewood, Minnesota, Lori (Joe) Gunn of Crooks, South Dakota; Lisa (Doug) Giles of Marshall, Minnesota; and grandchildren, Brandy Hirmer, Derek Hoflock, Desiree Hoflock, Jeff Heesch, Chris Heesch, Danielle Heesch, Brittney (Jesse) Wright, Tanner (Tegan) Giles and Brooke Giles.
