Alvin "Al" Taylor

Alvin Arthur Taylor was born on April 11, 1935, in Waterbury Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, to Earl and Christine (Larsen) Taylor. He went to Echo, Minnesota, school and graduated from high school in 1953. He joined the United States Marine Corps in November of 1953 and served three years in California and Japan. He was united in marriage to Mary Bott on August 24, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children: Terry, Ricky, Danny, and Lori.

Al worked at grain elevators in Hazel Run (1956), Rowena (1964), Tyler (1965), and Ortonville (1975), Minnesota. In 1982, he and Mary opened a feed and seed store in Tyler, Minnesota. He retired in 2015 after a fall on ice caused him to slow down life’s pace considerably. Mary cared for Al in their home until the day of his passing on Thursday, November 13, 2025. He passed peacefully at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Al was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. He was also a member of the Tyler American Legion for over 60 years, the Tyler Fire Department, the Lions Club, and served on both the school and hospital boards. He enjoyed bowling (on the Knudsen Bowling Team), fishing, hunting deer and pheasants, telling tall stories, and playing cards. He enjoyed gambling trips to Las Vegas. He loved to sit and drink coffee and visit with all of his customers and friends at the feed store. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so special to him and he had nicknames for each of them. He really treasured them all.
