BARBARA JANE MORGAN was born on August 28, 1939 to Roy and Esther (Paulsen) Barnes in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. After her graduation from Pipestone High School in 1957, she attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. On December 30, 1961, she was united in marriage to Steve Morgan in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Barb worked at the Gazette Newspaper as a typesetter. One year later, they moved to Beresford, South Dakota where they started their family. In 1969, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Barb enjoyed and excelled at being a full-time mom. After her children graduated from high school, Barb started her own commercial interior decorating company named Strictly Business. She retired in 2000 and moved with Steve to the Lakes Golf Course in Wentworth, South Dakota. That same year they began spending the winter months in Arizona, first in Gold Canyon, then in Casa Grande. In 2019, Barb and Steve moved back to Pipestone to be closer to family.
Barb was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. While in high school she was involved with cheerleading, class plays, chorus, and the sportsmanship committee. She loved leading the band as a drum majorette, and could demonstrate her baton-twirling skills upon request. She was a member of Chapter C, PEO, where she was a past president. She enjoyed antique hunting and built an impressive collection of Chinese porcelain called Rose Medallion. Barb also treasured her display of over 300 Christmas angel figurines. She loved shopping for clothing and especially the jewelry that went with it! She enjoyed cooking, golfing, scouting for home décor, and spending time at the cabin on Lake Shetek. She created beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived. Barb was a talented artist and specialized in the Norwegian art of rosemaling. Barb’s abilities as a hostess were unmatched, as she loved to entertain family and friends. She demonstrated her inner strength as a four-time cancer survivor. She will be remembered for her honesty, humor, and kindness. Barb passed away peacefully on Monday, June, 20, 2022, surrounded by her family at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 82 years, nine months, and 23 days.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Steve Morgan of Pipestone, MN; three children, Mark (Leslie) Morgan of Pipestone, Jim (Kim) Morgan of Pipestone, and Jayne (Scott) Zobel of Brandon, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, Jeff Morgan of Pipestone, Joe (Zyandra) Morgan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jacob Morgan of Pipestone, Jackson Morgan of Pipestone, Kristina (Ryan) Seegars of Dunn, North Carolina, Daphne (Shane) Barloon of Protovin, Iowa, Cassondra Zobel of Wenatchee Washington, and Breanna Zobel of Wenatchee, Washington; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bette Barnes.
