BERNICE IRENE HONKEN was born on May 2, 1930, to Milton and Pearl (Mitchell) Jackson on the family farm near Trosky, Minnesota. At a young age, she moved with the family into Trosky where she attended school through the eighth grade. The family then moved to Jasper, Minnesota and she attended Jasper High School, graduating in 1950. Upon completion of her education, she became employed at Rae’s Café in Jasper. On November 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Grant Edwards. Following their marriage, they lived near Hallsville, Missouri for six years. Then, they moved to Worthington, Minnesota for a couple years before moving to Woodstock, Minnesota. In 1960, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where she worked as a cook for many years. In 1970, she and Grant were divorced. In 1971, Bernice began working at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone in laundry services. She was united in marriage to Carroll Honken on December 6, 1975. After her retirement in 1997, she worked for eight years with school patrol. Bernice passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone at the age of 91 years, seven months, and one day.

Bernice was a member of Peace United Methodist Church and belonged to Circle. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and motorcycling. She especially enjoyed motorcycling to Montana.

Bernice is survived by her four children, Robert Edwards of St. James, Minnesota, Bruce and his wife Lettie Edwards of Osceola, Indiana, Lynda and her husband Troy Mickelson of St. James, and Dennis and his wife, Connie of Jackson, Minnesota; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Honken; daughter, Wilma Mays; her parents; one sister, Bonneta Potter; and two brothers, Farrel and Clarence.
