Carol Hoogland

Carol Jeanine Hoogland was born on September 6, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to John and Alberta (Van Velzen) Hubbling. She grew up on the family farm near Hardwick, Minnesota, where she developed the strong work ethic, resilience, and love of family that would define her throughout her life. Carol graduated from Southwest Minnesota Christian High School in Edgerton, Minnesota in 1960. Following graduation, she began working at the Luverne Courthouse in Luverne, Minnesota. On April 5, 1963, she married the love of her life, Pete Hoogland. In 1969, they made their home on the family farm near Hardwick, where they built a life together centered on faith, family, and farming. In addition to caring for her family and the farm, Carol worked for many years at the Ehde Brothers Mink Ranch. Carol had struggled with dementia in her later years. On July 1, 2026, Carol passed away peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Carol was known for her dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic in every role she held. Carol was a faithful member of the Luverne Christian Reformed Church, where her faith guided her life and relationships. Carol was involved in 4H and was a leader for many years. She cared for the home and livestock for many years. She found great joy in sewing, tending her garden, and baking for family and friends. Her home was a welcoming place, and she expressed her love through the care she gave to others. Above all, Carol treasured time with her family and embraced her roles as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Carol is lovingly survived by her husband of 63 years, Pete Hoogland; children, Dave (Leann) Hoogland, Peggy (Blan) Taylor, and Penni (Larry) Smith; grandchildren, Chelsey (Alex) Huisken, Cole Hoogland and girlfriend, Liz Prahm, Maddie (Tanner) Betts, Blan (Chloe) Taylor, and Matthew Smith and girlfriend, Montana Scholten; great-grandchildren, Beckett, Greyli, Granger Huisken, and Milo Betts; brothers, Richard (Vicki) Hubbling, Marv (April) Hubbling, Dave (Cindy) Hubbling, and Berr (Cathy) Hubbling; and sister, Ruth (Galen) Hubbling and many other nieces and nephews and family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alberta (Van Velzen) Hubbling; brothers, Jim Hubbling and Don Hubbling; and sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
