Charles R. Juhl was born August 27, 1935 to Rudolph and Delphia (Iverson) Juhl in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended country school through eighth grade and then attended Luverne High School where he graduated in 1953. He was a member of the National Guard from 1953 until 1961. He attended Radio Communication School at Ft. Benning, Georgia from January to April 1956. On August 19, 1956, Charles was united in marriage to Gloria Albers at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. The couple moved to the Juhl family farm and were the third generation to farm the land. They continued the Juhl Bros. Durocs operation with Charles’ uncle Hugo. They farmed for 45 years. In 1985, Charles retired from farming and was employed at the Valley Springs Coop Elevator for 17 years. Charles and Gloria moved to Luverne into 2001 and then to Poplar Creek in 2019. In 2022, Charles entered the Mary Jane Brown – Good Samaritan Village in Luverne, where on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, he died peacefully at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 26 days.
Charles was a member of Grace Lutheran Church which he helped build with other members of the congregation. He was a member of the choir. He also enjoyed attending tractor pulls.
Charles is survived by his three children, Lori (Hal) Schmidt of Luverne, Paul Juhl of Harrisburg, South Dakota, and John (Tammy) Juhl of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Moriah (Tobias) Meyer, Akela (Josiah) Erickson, Carl (Emily) Juhl, Hannah (Joe) Bourque, and Lydia Juhl; eight great-grandchildren, Miriam Meyer, Baby boy Meyer due in January 2026, Elias Erickson, Logan Juhl, Chris IronEyes, Carson IronEyes, Elizabeth Bourque, and Andrew Bourque; sisters, Marianna Jergensen, and Marge Walter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents, Rudolph and Delphia Juhl; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah Juhl, Jean and Norman Ahrendt, and Frank Walter.
