Dale Iverson

Dale Palmer Iverson was born on April 5, 1935 to Tollef and Mildred (Palmer) Iverson in Nekoma, North Dakota. He was the youngest of nine children that grew up and spent their time on the farm together. In 1941, the family moved to Russell, Minnesota. He had a lifelong love of horses and in his younger years, he participated in saddle club events – an experience he fondly remembered throughout his life. Dale attended school in Tyler, Minnesota and graduated from Balaton High School in 1954. Following graduation, Dale enlisted in the United States Air Force and was later honorably discharged in 1958. He spent much of his time in Germany where he worked as a base guard. On June 7, 1959, Dale was united in marriage to Norma Mattson and together they took over the family farm and lived there until 2025. The couple was blessed with three children, Brian, Bruce, and Tim. Dale was immensely proud of his three boys. They raised their family on the farm building a life rooted in hard work, devotion, and community. Dale milked cows for more than 40 years and officially retired from farming in 2004. On December 1, 2025, Dale passed away surrounded by his family at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 26 days.

Faith and community were the cornerstones of Dale’s life. He and Norma were active members of Ellsborough Lutheran church in rural Balaton, Minnesota until it disbanded and then joined Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. Dale served on the church boards. Dale and Norma were a part of the Ellsborough 500 card club with many other friends. Additionally, he contributed to his community through his service on the Ellsborough Township Board and was an active member of the Ruthton American Legion. Dale was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings, rarely missing a game. He enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, always ready with a quick sense of humor and a story to share. After retirement, he became an avid reader, with a particular fondness for biographies that allowed him to explore the lives and stories of others.

Dale is survived by his wife, Norma; sister, Ardell Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa; three sons, Brian (Ardis) Iverson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bruce (Becky) Iverson of Garvin, Minnesota, and Timothy (Amy) Iverson of Lamberton, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Brianna (Aliass) Keogh, Isaac (Dana) Iverson, Seth Iverson, Andrew (Eve) Iverson, Zach (Stephanie) Iverson, Nichy (Trent) Johnson, Cassandra (Joe) Chamberlain, Jacob (Paige) Iverson, and Megan (fiancé Grant) Iverson; and seven great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings.
