Daniel Kindt

October 1, 1959 — April 22, 2022

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota in Dan's honor.

DANIEL HAROLD KINDT was born on October 1, 1959 to Harold and Lois (Petersen) Kindt in Luverne, Minnesota and raised in Hardwick, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. In his youth and school years, Dan was active in sports, band and choir. While growing up he also kept busy with his lifelong passion of fishing and hunting. He attended school in Luverne and graduated from high school in 1978. Dan then attended and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota in 1983. On September 22, 1984, Dan was married to Joan Kulla at St. Pauls Church in Blaine, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Hardwick, Minnesota where they were blessed with their two children, Adam and Lexy. Dan helped his father with Kindt Oil from 1983 to 1986. He also began his career as a certified energy specialist with Rock Co. Co-Op Oil, which later became Farmers Union Co-Op and currently CHS. After recovering from a complication with his health, Dan died unexpectedly on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 62 years, six months and 21 days.

Dan was an active lifelong member of the Hardwick community. He was very involved in the community serving 39 years on the Hardwick Fire Department (10 as chief), as well as on the Hardwick Community Club, Pheasants Forever, and Snowmasters. When he wasn’t helping around town, he loved to be active. From hunting, fishing, and golfing, to riding snowmobile, ATVs, his pontoon “Instigator”, or one of his many other toys, Dan was always doing something. If anything needed fixing, he was the one to call. If he couldn’t come in person, he could talk you through it over the phone. He also loved spending time at the lake cabin and on the pontoon. He had a spontaneous and engaging personality, a charming persuasiveness, and a great sense of humor and wit that will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew him. Dan had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel special, like they were a close friend of his. He was a strong supporter of his community but also cared deeply for his family, making sure they all felt his love. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day saying: “If you want to do something, do it now, don’t wait.”

Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife Joan of Hardwick; children Adam (Amanda) Kindt of Watertown South Dakota, and Lexy (partner Brandon) Kindt of Minneapolis, Minnesota; father Harold Kindt of Hardwick; siblings Dawn Kindt of Kansas City, Missouri, Dave (Christie) Kindt of Volga, South Dakota, and Darin (Diane) Kindt of Luverne, Minnesota; two grandchildren Olivia and William Kindt; including many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother Lois Kindt and his brother-in-law William Mann.
