Darlene D. Anderson

DARLENE DOROTHEA ANDERSON was born to Harm and Dorothea “Dotty” (Wilson) Freese on February 11, 1932 at the Ashton Memorial Hospital in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm south of Pipestone in Sweet Township. She attended country school in District 24 through the eighth grade and then Pipestone High School. While attending high school, she worked as a nurse’s aid at the Ashton Hospital in Pipestone. After her graduation in 1949, she attended Nurse’s Training at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis for one year. On June 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they resided on a farm outside of Pipestone where she helped her husband rebuild and refurbish campers and mobile homes. In 1993, they retired and purchased a home in Pipestone. In May of 1993, Lloyd preceded her in death. After his death, she continued to live in their home until July of 2016 when she became a resident at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She died peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone at the age of 89 years, three months, and four days.

Darlene was confirmed in and is a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she belonged to a circle. In her youth, she was an active member of the Sweet Strivers 4-H Club for eight years and won numerous awards. She enjoyed doing her gardening and sewing. She especially enjoyed a cup of coffee with friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Robert Anderson of Marshall, Minnesota and Margaret Graue of Coolidge, Arizona; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; one son, Terrence “Terry” Anderson; her daughter-in-law, Joanne Anderson; her son-in-law, Gregory Graue; her parents; two sisters, Joanne (DeWayne) Mork and Kathy DeRyeke; and her father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Stella Anderson.
