David Keith Rogness was born on May 24, 1948, in Luverne, Minnesota to Darwin and Joyce (Pederson) Rogness. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota and returned to Luverne in 1960. He grew up enjoying camping with family, hunting and fishing with his dad, water skiing and swimming. David graduated from Luverne High School in 1966. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked in Air Freight and served a tour of duty in Vietnam for one year. While stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, he met the love of his life, Louise Dell Grant. On August 27, 1970, the couple was united in marriage in San Antonio and were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie and Pamela. They lived in San Antonio for two years before moving to Luverne in 1972 where David was employed at Darwin’s Service Center (Texaco) until the early 1980’s. He then worked at the House of Oak with his dad restoring furniture. He also served two years in the Air Force National Guard of South Dakota.
