Dorothy Rosenberg

Dorothy Bernice Rosenberg was born on July 23, 1928 in Ellsworth, Minnesota to Oltman and Harriet (Rust) Hickman. She was baptized on April 7, 1929 at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Dorothy grew up on the family farm east of Ellsworth and was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Ellsworth Public School in 1946 and following graduation, she furthered her education at Mankato State Teachers College in Mankato, Minnesota earning a teaching certificate. She taught at a country school east of Ellsworth for two years. On July 26, 1949 she was united in marriage to Daryl Rosenberg. The couple was blessed with three sons, Curtis, Craig and Mark. They raised their family on a farm near Little Rock, Iowa and lived there for 13 years. In 1963, they purchased a farm east of Ellsworth. In addition to being a farm wife and a mother, she worked as a teachers aid and went to night school to complete her degree. Dorothy was offered a job as an assistant cashier at Ellsworth State Bank and continued to work there for over 20 years. Her warm, friendly personality was a good fit and she became a customer favorite. The couple retired from farming in 1991 and later moved to Luverne, Minnesota in 1995. Daryl passed away in 2006. Dorothy moved to Poplar Creek Assisted Living in 2017 and later moved to Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in 2020 where she later passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 97 years, 8 months and 5 days.

Dorothy was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth and later First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. She was very active in the church and in the community. Dorothy was the first woman elected as an elder at Zion Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school there as well. She was also an active member in the Extension club in Ellsworth. Dorothy also volunteered at many places in Luverne including Luverne Schools, the clinic and also the Minnesota Veterans Home. She loved growing flowers and houseplants, playing cards, bowling, crosswords and traveling. She was an excellent speller and competed in spelling bees. Dorothy loved TV game shows, especially the Wheel of Fortune. Coffee was something that always made her happy but it had to be hot and not decaf. At home she kept a clutter- free house and like her mother, she was a great cook and enjoyed hosting many family gatherings at the farm.

Dorothy is remembered by her sons, Craig Rosenberg of Luverne and Mark (Teri) Rosenberg of Redfield, South Dakota; grandchildren, McKenzie (Ryan) Lee of Spearfish, South Dakota, Jared (Courtney Nelson) Kuehn of Redfield; great-grandchildren, Ryken Lee, Ridge Lee and Huxtyn Kuehn and brother, Paul (Jennifer) Hickman of Brandon, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daryl; son, Curtis; parents, Oltman and Harriet; sisters, Lorraine Meester and Ruth Wiese; and brother, Robert Hickman.
