Douglas Ernest Theel "Beercan"
was born to Ernest and Bernice (Giever) Theel on February 26, 1948 in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was raised in Pipestone and Jasper, Minnesota. He started school in Jasper and then completed his education in Pipestone. On October 27, 1965, he was united in marriage to Diane Mary Hart at the Presbyterian Church in Bellflower, California. Following their marriage, they lived in Bellflower, and Doug worked as a welder and a heavy equipment mechanic. In 1974, he moved back to Pipestone and worked as a truck driver for Clair Larson. In 1981, he became employed as a mechanic for the Pipestone County Highway Department where he continued until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, Doug gave his time to New Horizon Farms fixing medicators and doing deliveries. In January, 2024, he became a resident at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota where he met amazing doctors and nurses and staff and they became friends of his. On February 5, 2026, Doug passed away at the Edgebrook Care Center at the age of 77 years.
Doug was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith in Pipestone. He was a life member of the Pipestone County Museum, and he served on the museum board. He was also a life member of the Pipestone Indian Shrine, the Quarry Lodge 148 and the Scottish Rite Research Society. He was a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and the 32nd Degree York Rite. He served two terms on the Pipestone City Council and 13 years on the Planning Commission. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He thoroughly enjoyed genealogy, and he worked on three family trees. He loved having company stop by, especially his Saturday coffee crowd, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
He is survived by his children, Jimmy (Kristie) Theel and Amy Theel (Randy Stevens) both of Pipestone, Minnesota; son-in-law, Herman Schroer of Pipestone; grandkids, Derek, Jamie (Andrew), Devin, Diana, Madorie and Byron; great-grandkids, Waylon, Brantley, Georgia and Marcellus; brothers, Bill (Kathy) Theel of Salt Lake City, Utah and Randy (Cozy) Theel of Reno, Nevada; brother-in-law, Tom Mogensen of Edgerton, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Judy Theel of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Boots Theel; son, David Theel; former wife, Diane Theel; brothers, Larry Theel and Gene Theel; sister, Marilyn Mogensen; and sister-in-law, Carol Theel.
