Duane Schulte

Duane Herman Schulte was born on August 23, 1956 to Johan Christoph and Doris Irene (Jensen) Schulte in Marshall, Minnesota. Duane was baptized in 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton, South Dakota. Duane grew up on the Schulte family farm east of Elkton, South Dakota where he enjoyed fishing, camping, and fixing bicycles. Duane started school at Verdi Public High School in Verdi, Minnesota. In 1964, Duane’s family moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. He delivered newspapers for the Pipestone County Star. Duane was very close friends with the Hartke boys, Rusty, Joel, and Steve, they were constantly together having fun. Duane graduated from Pipestone High School in 1974. After graduation, Duane joined the Minnesota Army National Guard where he served proudly for 20 plus years. After serving, Duane came home and worked for several farmers in Pipestone County before moving to Monroe, Washington, where he worked for his uncle Gordon Jensen at the Monroe Auto Salvage Yard. Duane moved back to Pipestone, Minnesota for a while before moving to Marshall, Minnesota for a job at the Heartland Turkey Plant. When Duane’s mom Doris bought a home in Ruthton, Minnesota Duane moved in with her to help her out around the house. Duane mowed lawn for people in Ruthton as well as helped Ivan Kuhlman during harvest. Duane was a member of the American Legion Post 113 in Marshall, Minnesota. Throughout Duane’s life he could always be found watching nascar races, Minnesota Vikings, Twins, or Timberwolves games. Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Duane passed away peacefully in his home.

Duane is lovingly remembered by his mother, Doris Larson of Ruthton, Minnesota; his siblings, Steven (Helen) Schulte of Ruthton, Minnesota; Diane Komsky of Lake Benton, Minnesota; Pamela Larson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Patricia Hubers of Lake Benton, Minnesota; Eugene (Sandy) Schulte of Aurora, South Dakota; and Raymond Larson of Pipestone, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Herman and Therese Schulte; Jim and Gladys Jensen; father, Johan Schulte; step-dad, Raymond Larson; sister, Lavonne Wunnette; and brother-in-law, James Larson.
