Edith Christina Aas was born to Harold and Alda (Steiger) Berg on January 13, 1946 in Baker, Montana. She was raised and received her education in Rhame, North Dakota. After her graduation from Rhame High School in 1964, she attended Humboldt Business College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon completion of her education, Edie worked for a travel agency and then the American Lutheran Church headquarters. On April 4, 1970, she was united in marriage to Gordon Aas in Windom, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Windom for a short time before moving to Tyler, Minnesota. In 1971, they moved to Jasper, Minnesota where Edie worked part-time at various jobs, including the school. She also worked as the church custodian and cleaned for several people in Jasper. Gordon preceded her in death on March 14, 2021. Edie became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota in the November 2026. She passed away peacefully there on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 80.
Edie was a member of Jasper Lutheran Church where she was active in the WELCA, church council, taught Sunday School and attended weekly bible studies. She was a member of the Oscar Iverson American Legion Auxiliary, Jasper Lions where she served in positions at the local and district level, Jasper Development Corporation and the Jasper Quartziter Club. When her children were young, she also volunteered as a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed being active in her community and reading in her spare time.
She is lovingly remembered by her two children, Lisa (Doug) Petersen of Jasper, Minnesota, and Jared Aas of Buffalo, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Kerri Petersen of Brandon, South Dakota, and Bryce (Jessica) Petersen of Jasper, Minnesota; two great-grandsons, James Wussow and Sawyer Wick; one brother, Philip (Linda) Berg of Rhame, North Dakota; one sister, Theresa Berg of Rhame; brother-in-law, Charlie Ward of Dickinson, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Audrey Knollenberg of Alexandria, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; parents; brother, Harold; and sister, Betty Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jasper Lutheran Church, Jasper Auxiliary, or the Jasper Lions Club (to help local individuals).
