Gary Earl Biever was born on August 8, 1942, to Earl and Eileen (Demuth) Biever at the Pipestone County Hospital in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was baptized on October 10, 1942, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota and made a confirmation of his faith on July 1, 1950, also at St. Martin. He played sports of all kinds during his childhood and attended Pipestone High School, graduating in 1960. Following school, he lived at home and helped his Dad on the farm. In 1965, Gary took a job at Hicks Oil in Pipestone for a couple years before taking a job at Pepsi-Cola Bottling in Pipestone as a route salesman from 1968-1975. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1973, to Gwendolyn Watts at St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. The couple made their home in Pipestone. From 1975-1989, Gary worked as a salesman with Moorman's Feed. In 1982, he began working at Pipestone Liquor Store as a sales clerk which he continued until his retirement in 2008. Over the last four years, Gary suffered from various health challenges which had gotten worse over the last few months. He passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone.
Gary was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. He was passionate about sports throughout his life, including baseball, softball, football and bowling. He took his love of sports to the radio where he assisted in announcing games for the Pipestone Arrows for KLOH from 1986-1995. He liked to play cards, especially a good game of rummy, pinochle, bridge or poker.
Gary will be remembered by his friends and family for his encyclopedic knowledge of Pipestone County, card games, and sports. He was a playful loving father, husband, and grandfather. He could crack a one liner with the best of them or give you a look and you knew exactly what he was thinking.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gwen of Pipestone; two children, Amy (Mark) Christensen of Burbank, South Dakota and Matthew (Missy) Biever of Zumbrota, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Alex, Gabe and Mya DeJong, Maddie and Kylar Christensen and Colby Biever; siblings, Janet Karpen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kathy (Jerry) Anderson of Vermillion, South Dakota, Jim (Jan) Biever of Pipestone, sister-in-law, Sherri Biever of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; and daughter from a previous relationship, Deb (John) Taylor of Hudson, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rich Biever.
