George Wipf

George Joe Wipf was born on November 8, 1959 to Joseph and Mary Wipf in Ipswich, SD.  He was raised at Plain View Colony near Ipswich.  He married the love of his life, Lana Wollman on June 23, 1986 at the Plain View Colony.  George was the dairy cow manager and feed mill manager while he and his family lived there.  In 1996 the family moved to the Heartland Colony near Lake Benton, MN where George managed the beef cattle herd until the time of his diagnosis in December of 2022.  George passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the age of 63.

George loved to put in a hard day’s work.  He was happy to stay at home and stay busy. George worked hard and did his best to provide for and set an example for his kids, whom he loved dearly.  George was a cowboy at heart and worked with cows much of his life, a job that he enjoyed.

George loved spending time with his family and he delighted in loving on his grandchildren. He was a serious person, but his children know that he loved them dearly and that everything he did, he did for them. You had to come to know him to see his softer side.  When he warmed up to you, he would always have a smile to share with you. George loved nothing more than having his home full of family and friends.

George is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lana, of Heartland; his children (and their children), Deanna (Stanley) Maendel (Danae, Malachi, Grace, Allison, Xavier) of Forest River, Naomi (Jordan) Tschetter (Noah, Samson, Manassah, Karris) of Pleasant Valley, Waylon (Linda) Wipf (Brooklyn, Rayna) of Heartland, Valerie (Kenny) Waldner (Timothy, Lori) of Orland, Duane (Melanie) Wipf of Heartland, and Darren (McKenzie) Wipf (Jasmine, Jamian) of Heartland; his siblings, Ernest (Elizabeth), Daniel (Annie), Anna (Andrew) Stahl, Rose (Joseph) Wipf, Maria (John) Wipf, Gladys (Leonard) Kleinsasser, Joshua (Sarah) Wipf, Tim (Cynthia) Wipf, and Miriam (Pr. Thomas) Wollman.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary; one grandson, Elijah Wipf; sister, Marianna; brothers, Joseph, Samuel, Clarence, and John; his father- and mother-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
