Glenn Vander Poel

Glenn Alan Vander Poel was born on May 8, 1957 to Jill and Donna (Jordan) Vander Poel in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up in the Pipestone, Minnesota area and attended school in Pipestone, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1975. He attended Votech school and took some classes to become a diesel mechanic. He changed paths and attended SMSU in Marshall, Minnesota and took some classes there as well. He was married on August 16, 1986, to Rosemary Schulte and the union was blessed with four children, Chad, Kyle, Jared, and Kara. The couple was later divorced and Glenn continued to live and farm near Pipestone. Glenn was very recently diagnosed with cancer and after a very short, hard battle he passed away on July 19, 2026, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Glenn was a farmer and enjoyed raising cattle and leaning on a pickup truck, many times conversing for hours. He liked to go bowling and fishing. He watched many tractor pulls and drag races as well as many Minnesota Vikings wins (and losses). He was a sightseer, travelling many places and taking pictures as he went. He was famous for his chocolate malts, which only Kara knows how to truly replicate.

Glenn was a dreamer. His favorite phrases were: “Someday.” “Oh?” “Put it on the list.” “You know what would be nice...” “I’m gonna write them a strongly worded letter.” “Hey! I was watching that!” and “One of these days…” He was a hardworking, big-hearted man who was kind, strong-willed, and marched to the beat of his own drum.

Glenn is lovingly remembered by his children, Chad (Rachel) Vander Poel of Oak Harbor, Washington, Kyle Vander Poel of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Jared (Devin) Vander Poel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Kara Vander Poel of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Kylie, Brecken, Taaliyah, Adelaide, Ashton, and Florence Vander Poel; and two siblings, Susan Vander Poel of Chaska, Minnesota, and Jack (Becky) Vander Poel of Jasper, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jill and Donna Vander Poel.

Blessed be the memory of Glenn Vander Poel!

Glenn's family wishes to invite all family and friends attending the visitation and funeral service to dress in a more casual form as Glenn would have wished.
