Harold Kindt

Harold Alvin Kindt was born July 24, 1927 in Rock County, Minnesota to William and Lillian (Lauck) Kindt. He was baptized on January 30, 1928 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. Harold attended rural Kenneth Country School through the 8th grade. On January 16,1951, Harold entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 22, 1952. On June 24, 1953, Harold married Lois Petersen at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. Harold and Lois were life-long residents of Hardwick. Harold worked for Standard Oil for 31 years, and later, the City of Hardwick for more than 20 years. Harold passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne, Minnesota at the age of 98 years, 11 months and one day.

Harold was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as a Trustee. He was a dedicated member of the Hardwick Fire Department for 42 years including many years as Fire Chief. He was also a life time member of the American Legion Arthur Moeller Post 478, Hardwick, MN. The time Harold spent hunting and fishing with his sons was among the greatest joys of his life. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and bingo. He was especially grateful to his niece Colette DeSchepper and her husband Chuck, for picking him up to play cards and their frequent visits. He loved dancing with Lois at the Gem Ballroom in Hardwick, and later the VFW in Luverne. He was known for his great sense of humor and his memorable laugh, especially when he wasn’t, as he would say, “tired and crabby”.

Harold is lovingly survived by his daughter, Dawn Kindt (Jim Noll) of Buckeye, Arizona; sons, David (Christie) Kindt of Volga, South Dakota and Darin (Diane) Kindt of Luverne, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Joan Kindt of St. Paul, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, Elise Mann, Adam (Amanda) Kindt, Tyler Kindt, Lexy (Brandon Brown) Kindt , Chad Kindt, Caitlin Kindt, and Kylie Kindt; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia and William Kindt, Langston Brown; and sister-in-law, Delores Petersen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; his son, Daniel; son-in-law, Bill Mann; his brothers, Albert and Russell; and his sister, Marion Lorenzen.
