Harold Steenstra

Harold Steenstra was born on August 28, 1934 to John and Cora (Dooyema) Steenstra in Leota, Minnesota where he was raised and attended Leota Christian School. Harold married Jeanne Kerber on June 7, 1959 in Miller, South Dakota. Five children were born to this union. On January 25, 1991, Harold was united in marriage to Ethel Mains in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Harold held a variety of positions throughout his employment years. He worked in Sioux Falls as a truck driver and farmed while living in Holland, Minnesota. He and his brother, Floyd Steenstra, worked together in their backhoe and trenching construction business, digging ditches, water lines and septic tanks.

Harold died peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota at the age of 89 years, six months and 13 days.

Harold was a member of Jasper Community Church in Jasper, Minnesota. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known for shooting the biggest bear in Minnesota. He was also known as a prankster and jokester. His grandchildren knew he always kept candy in his pockets. Harold was a great conversationalist, enjoyed visiting, and was quite the storyteller. 

Left to honor Harold's memory are his children, Rhonda (Dan) Eckhart of Big Lake, Minnesota, Kenneth (Julie) Steenstra of Hadley, Minnesota, Keith (Jean) Steenstra of Holland, Harlan (Cindy) Steenstra of Loretto, Minnesota, and Rolly (significant other, Lindy DeGroot) Steenstra of Holland; significant other, Lonna Kienholz "Raven" of Pipestone; sister, Agnes Meyer of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Steenstra of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cora; wife, Ethel; brother, Floyd Steenstra; sister, Cornelia Rust; great-grandchild, Caleb Moffitt; brothers-in-law, John Rust, Ted Hepner, and Marv Meyer; and niece, Mary Schelhaas.
