Helen Krogmann

November 5, 1930 — January 14, 2020

HELEN IONE KROGMANN was born on November 5, 1930, to Herbert and Genevieve (Willey) Huebner in Pipestone, Minnesota. Helen was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. She attended District 10 rural school for eight years. During her school years, she was a member of Troy Troilers 4H Club and The Blue Mound Climbers 4H group. In 1948, Helen graduated from Pipestone High School. She was employed at Juba’s Super Value until 1949. Helen met Lorenz Krogmann at the Hatfield dance hall and on January 30, 1949, the couple was united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Helen became employed at Kenny’s Super Value until “Krogie” was drafted into service. The couple made their home at Camp Roberts in California for six months. During their time in California, Helen was employed by Service Cleaners. Upon Krogie’s deployment to Korea, Helen returned to Pipestone where she was employed by Pipestone TV Towers. They returned to the Krogmann Brothers Farm and spent the next 14 years farming the land and raising various livestock. In 1970, Helen and Lorenz moved into Luverne, Minnesota. Helen was employed at the Blue Mound Cooperative Center until purchasing Krogie’s Kegger in Hardwick, which they owned for 17 years and where Helen made many long lasting lifetime friendships. Helen would also help out her son-in-law cleaning for ServiceMaster part-time until her retirement. In August, Helen became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home where she made many, many friends. On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Helen died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Sanford Luverne Hospital at the age of 89 years, two months and nine days.

Helen enjoyed playing cards in a number of groups, meeting friends for “Wednesday” night suppers, knitting, crocheting, painting pastel art work, reading, bowling and puzzles. She did extensive work on family history not just documenting dates but also including stories and pictures. In her later years Helen helped with taking care of the great-grandchildren after school. Many days you would find Helen and “Lucy” out for daily walks on the Scooter. Grandma Helen will lovingly be remembered by her “stories”, her competitive (bending the rules) nature in cards with her great-grands and she was the mender and fixer of anything needing repairs. She always took the time to take her grandchildren fishing; each one was able to take a special trip with her.

Helen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deb (Gene) Aanenson of Luverne; grandchildren, Jen (Tom) Rolfs, Bill Aanenson & Melissa Aanenson, all of Luverne; great-grandchildren, Zoey & Paige Sandbulte, Genevieve, Tyler, Nicholas and Phillip Rolfs, and Brody Aanenson; siblings, Virgil Huebner & Gordon Huebner (Rosalie Schubert); and sisters-in-law, Leona Huebner and Janice Huebner; and her roommate, Sandy Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenz in 2004; her parents; siblings Robert Huebner, Lyle Huebner, Dale Huebner and Margaret (Peg) Erickson and in-laws: Shirley Huebner, Marge Huebner and Loyal Erickson.
