Janice “Jan” Loreen Huebner was born on October 4, 1938, to Carl and Loreena (Jordt) Johnson in Moody County, South Dakota. She spent her childhood on a farm in Troy Township, Pipestone, Minnesota, where she attended a country school. In 1952, Jan confirmed her faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. When her family moved into town, she completed grades eight through twelve and graduated from Pipestone High School.
On October 12, 1957, Jan married Dale Huebner at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. They built their life together on the Huebner family farm in Troy Township, where Dale farmed. In February 1989, they moved into Pipestone. Jan worked as a bookkeeper for the local propane company from December 1969 until her retirement in October 2000. Dale preceded her in death in 2013.
On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Jan passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 86 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
A Life Well Lived
A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jan was deeply involved in her community. She contributed to the church quilting group, ensuring every high school graduate received a handmade quilt. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as both president and secretary.
Jan devoted much of her time to volunteering, offering kindness and care at the hospital, Senior Center, and Good Samaritan Society. She embraced an active lifestyle, golfing, gardening, exercising, playing cards and putting together puzzles. Few things brought her more joy than a fast-paced game of pickleball, and she rarely let a week pass without stepping onto the court. She was always up for a competitive match of bean bags with family and friends.
Jan had deep pride in Pipestone, shopping locally whenever possible. She was a devoted supporter of high school athletics, cheering on the Pipestone Arrows from the stands whenever she could. She also loved following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Above all, Jan cherished time spent with family and friends.
