Jarvis M. Boisen

Memorials are preferred to the Luverne Dollars for Scholars Program in memory of Jarvis Boisen: Luverne Dollars for Scholars.

Jarvis Maynard Boisen was born on September 19, 1927 to John and Mabel (Bly) Boisen in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised in town and attended school, graduating from Luverne High School in 1945. He was drafted into the United States Army and served as a mechanic in charge of the motor pool while he served in Japan during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began working as an automotive mechanic. He worked for Lloyd Rapp at his auto repair shop servicing cars. While attending a dance in Sioux Falls in the spring of 1952, Jarv met Darlene Friday and the two began dating. On September 7, 1952, the couple was united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Luverne and were blessed to raise three sons. Jarv purchased a downtown business on Main Street in Luverne and eventually renamed it “Jarv’s Auto Service” and successfully operated the repair shop and service station until his formal retirement in 1987, when he sold the business. He kept busy the next ten years driving school bus for the Luverne Public School system. In August 2015, the couple moved to The Oaks senior living apartments in Luverne. Darlene preceded him in death on April 25, 2019. Jarv transitioned to Poplar Creek apartments. In 2021, he became a resident at Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, where on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Jarv went to be with his Lord at the age of 96 years, one month and five days.

Jarv was a long time active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, often assisting as an usher. He served on the Luverne Fire Department for many years. He was also a member of the Dell Hogan American Legion, the Luverne Lions and had served on the Maplewood Cemetery Association board for over 20 years and on the Luverne City Residential Zoning Board. He held a passion for cars and enjoyed fishing in Alaska, Minnesota Twins baseball, and perpetually fixing and updating their house with his carpentry skills. Jarv and Darlene enjoyed visiting their sons in various locations in the United States. He held a high moral and ethical standard and was always willing to do anything that would help others and served as an excellent role mode to his boys. He also had a strong work ethic and had a quick, dry wit.

Jarv is lovingly survived by his three children, Ronald (Suzanne) of Girdwood, Alaska, Gary (Soheyla) of Laguna Beach, California, and Alan (Amy) of Red Wing, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Sarah, Christa, Rachel, Carly and Daniel; sister, Ramona Beug of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; and other numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; grandson, Matthew Boisen; and parents, John and Mabel.
