Joy L. Brown

February 10, 1950 — September 3, 2021

JOY LAWANDA BROWN was born February 10, 1950, to Burl and Gladys (Kimes) Shepherd in Mulberry, Arkansas. Joy attended Mulberry High School and received her GED in 1967. She worked as a waitress at Meadows in Alma, Arkansas. On March 22, 1981, she was united in marriage to Lyman Brown, Sr. in Mulberry. Together they made their home in Hatton, North Dakota, where she was a member of the Eastern Star Lutheran Church and ran the food pantry. They later moved to Jasper, Minnesota, between the years of 1990 and 1991. Joy worked in the deli at the grocery store in Jasper, as a waitress at Three Straw Café in Jasper, and as a baker at Lange’s Café in Pipestone, Minnesota, until the early 2000’s. Joy passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at her home in Jasper at the age of 71 years, six months, and 24 days.

Joy enjoyed fishing, cross stitching, jigsaw puzzles, and baking. She loved mowing her yard and keeping her house spotless. Joy especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren/great grandchildren, spending time with family and friends, shopping with her daughter Satin, having coffee in the morning, and watching her favorite television shows. She will be remembered for her one of a kind sense of humor, her loving and nurturing personality, and for always being honest.

Joy is survived by her daughters, Candice Pittser of Buckley, Washington, Satin (special friend Phillip Waldron) Pittser of Jasper, and Dana (fiancé Scott Miller) Anderson of Jasper; siblings, Burl (Wanda) Shepherd, Jacquita O’Bier, and Jimmy Shepherd; grandchildren, Tony, Jacob, Nichelle, Erin, Cody, Carly, and Piper; great grandchildren, Braiya, Arayia, Navayah, Leah, Tavious, Lyric, Anika, Kayden, Marley, HuntsLee, and Finley; mother-in-law, Marcella Mae Brown; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Sr.; her parents; daughters, Joyce Pittser, Elaine Pittser, and Dawn Michelle Brown; sons, Ricky Lee Brown and Lyman Brown Jr.; and her father-in-law, Earl Brown.
