Joyce Kunz

Joyce Iylen Kunz was born on April 12, 1938 to Christian "Chris" and Palma (Fredrickson) Schuldt in Madison, South Dakota. She was raised and attended school in Chester, South Dakota, graduating from Chester High School in 1956. She then attended Stewart School and graduated in 1958 with a cosmetology degree. In 1957, she married Lyle Dickerson and to that union eight children were born. They lived in Colton, South Dakota, Brookings, South Dakota and Truman, Minnesota. In 1972, Joyce moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she was active in the PTA at Hawthorne Elementary and also worked at Dakota Bank and Ramkota. In 1976, she was united in marriage to Bill Kunz in Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Sioux Falls until 2001 when they moved to Pipestone. They were married for 44 years. On June 8, 2019, Bill preceded her in death. In October, 2019, Joyce moved into Ridgeview in Pipestone. She then became a resident of Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone in December, 2022, where she passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the age of 88 years, two months and 29 days.

Joyce was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone, where she was active in Peace Circle, ladies' salad lunches, and other church activities. She enjoyed sewing towels, reading, gardening, doing puzzles, playing cards, and attending bingo games with friends and family. Joyce also participated in swimming classes at the recreation center. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around with others. During her time at Good Samaritan, she often brightened the staff's day by secretly slipping pieces of chocolate into their pockets, a small gesture that reflected her playful spirit and kindness toward those around her.
