Karen Rae Vos was born on December 15, 1947 to Homer Wallman and Iola Lucille (Johnson) Crawford in Hammond, Indiana. A few months later, she moved with her family to Kankakee, Illinois where she was raised and attended school. When her sisters moved away and her brothers were ready to complete their education, her parents decided to move to California. In 1960, they bought a home in Fullerton, California where her mother lived until her death in 1992. In 1962, Karen met Daryl Allan Vos. He had also moved to Fullerton with his family from Minnesota. They were married in 1964 at the Knotts Berry Farm Chapel in Buena Park, California. After their marriage, they lived in Fullerton where her son Daryl, Jr., was born at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton. At that time, they moved from Southern California to Chico, California in the northern part of the state. A few years later our daughter Donna Lynn Vos was born in 1969. Living in Chico as the children grew up was wonderful and gave them many beautiful memories. In 1974, they moved back to Fullerton where they lived for a year. In 1975, they moved to Holland, Minnesota where Karen was a stay-at-home mom. She also had several part-time jobs. In 1983, she became employed full-time at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone until 2005. During this time, she also worked part-time at Hope Haven from 1989 to 1995. In 1995, she started working for the Pipestone County Hospice and Home Health Care Department. She often said this was the best job she ever had. In the spring of 2020 she was diagnosed with moderate to severe dementia. On June 23, 2021, she entered the care of the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota and passed away there on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the age of 75.
Karen enjoyed working on many different crafts. She also enjoyed volunteering her time to do the hair for the residents of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Daryl Vos, Jr., of Tyler, Minnesota; her daughter, Donna Vos of Holland, Minnesota; and one brother, Jim (Marlene) Crawford of Tampa Bay, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Diane Cruz and Maxine Hiestand; one brother, Gilbert Crawford; and her former husband, Daryl Vos, Sr.
