Kathryn Winsel

Kathryn Helen Winsel was born June 5, 1942 to August and Emma (Wussow) Winsel in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was baptized June 21, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone, and confirmed May 29, 1956 at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm near Holland, and attended grade school at District 4 country school in Grange Township. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1960. During high school she was a car hop at the Pipestone A&W. In 1963 Kathryn received her nursing degree from St. Barnabas School of Nursing in Minneapolis. Her career was that of a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedics Department, for two years at St. Barnabas Hospital and then until her retirement in 2001 at the University of Minnesota Hospital. She moved to River Pointe Assisted Living in 2015. On July 8, 2023, Kathryn peacefully passed away at the age of 81years old.

Kathryn loved horses and dogs. She owned many dogs, which she called “my kids,” and for many years walked dogs for the Humane Society in St. Paul. She loved to read, travel, do crossword puzzles, and garden.

Kathryn is lovingly remembered by her sister, Alvina Welgraven of Tyler, Minnesota; and her special niece and nephews, Bruce (Christina) Welgraven, Barbara (Sam Hereau) Omelenik, and Keith (Jeanna) Welgraven and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Bert Welgraven; and her great-nephew, Jonathan Welgraven.
