Kathryne Straw

Kathryne Ann Straw was born on February 23, 1927 to Claus and Emma (Landt) Johannsen in Sweet Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota.  She attended country school District #24 for grades 1-8.  She then attended Pipestone High School, graduating in 1945.  After graduation, she worked for Silverberg's until 1949.  On February 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Vergel Straw in Yuma, Arizona.  After their marriage, they lived in San Diego, California and in Texas.  While in Texas, she worked for a Woolworth store.  She returned to Pipestone in 1951 where she went back to work at Silverberg's.  She later worked for HyPane Gas until her retirement in 1983. She moved into Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone in December, 2021.  She passed away there on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the age of 96 years.   

Kathryne was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she was a member her whole life.  She was active in church circles and helped with the church newsletter.  She volunteered at the Food Shelf.  

She is survived by her son, Mike (JoAnn) Straw of Pipestone; two grandchildren, Brad (Teresa) Straw of Pipestone and Sara (Shane) Delaney of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Straw, Aubrey and Mackenzie Delaney, Kibo Pulscher and Chaska Kinnerson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Vergel Straw; her parents; two brothers, Claus "Joe" and Robert Johannsen; one sister, Marge Shane; two nephews, Randy Johannsen and Bernie Shane.
