Kristi Ann Morphew was born on December 12, 1958 to Milton and Gertrude (Conklin) Jacobson at Peabody Hospital in Webster, South Dakota. She spent her childhood in Webster where her days were filled with playing dolls and being a nurse and school teacher to them. She loved animals and even dressed her dog, Sandy, in doll dresses. Even with all the dolls, she was a tomboy at heart and loved to play with her trucks on the gravel road and go see the machinery that her Dad would use when building the roads and the airport in Webster. He would even pick her up from school in a road grader or huge dump truck. She graduated from Webster High School in 1977. She married her sweetheart Dennis Morphew on June 11, 1977 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, South Dakota. The couple lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota where Kristi attended Presentation College. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Science and Nursing in 1983. Her first RN position was at Mobridge Regional Hospital where she practiced all areas of rural healthcare, including delivering two babies who couldn’t wait for the doctor to arrive! In 1989, she took a job as a RN on the surgical floor at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. The couple then moved to Des Moines, Iowa for a short time where she worked at Mercy Hospital. In 1995, the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota where she took a RN case management role with Sioux Falls Sioux Vocational, now known as Life Scape. She formally retired in 2013 due to her physical health. In her retirement, she took a position at HSI (Habilitative Services Inc) providing a supervisory role with in home personal care assistant services. She especially loved the elderly and caring for people with disabilities. She enjoyed learning their abilities and hearing elderly tell their life stories. Although her health prevented it, her final goal as a nurse was to be a hospice nurse due to her strong spiritual beliefs and Christian faith. She had been at many bedsides holding hands, rubbing backs and providing comfort to the scared and weary. Kristi loved her work as a nurse and felt called to provide compassionate and quality care to everyone she had the opportunity to help. In 2020, the couple moved to Trosky, Minnesota where they found the perfect country home to enjoy their retirement years. Kristi entered the care of the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage and passed away peacefully there on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the age of 67.
Kristi is lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis of Trosky; children, Amy Lynne Latten of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael Dennis (Candi) Morphew of Flandreau, South Dakota, and Brandon (Julia) Morphew of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Rick (Olivia) Morphew, Tyler (Haley Main) Morphew, Brianna Latten, Gavin (Makayla Tuohino) Morphew, Riley Morphew, and Graham Morphew; one great-grandchild, Evelyn Morphew; and her siblings, C.
