Larry Rieck

Lawrence “Larry” John Rieck was born to John and Helen (Hellwinckel) Rieck on June 19, 1934, at the Ashton Hospital in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota and was later confirmed on May 16, 1948. While growing up, Larry attended school in Jasper. On August 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Bernita Adler. To this union, their son Randy was born and their daughter Lori was adopted when she was four years old. Larry and Bernita made their home on several farms throughout their time together and in 1969 they built a new home in Gray Township in Pipestone County. In 1955 Bernita contracted polio and was confined to a wheelchair until her passing on July 19, 1974.

On February 5, 1983, Larry married Barbara Ludolph Beadle at the First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Larry had been a member of First Lutheran Church for 73 years and was active in the men’s organization in his earlier years. He was an avid supporter of the Meatball Dinner, where serving ice cream was his favorite job. In 2001 Larry retired from active farming. He kept busy during his retirement years by collecting old cars, trucks and tractors and tinkering with them to fix up and sell. His grandkids have many fond memories of him letting them drive the tractors around the farm. Larry was a member of the Lion’s club for approximately 10 years and was a member of the Farm Bureau for 70 years. Larry and Barb moved off the farm in 2020 and purchased a townhome in Pipestone. During their time together, Larry and Barb enjoyed traveling and attending Minnesota Vikings games. The couple spent many years wintering in Hawaii, Florida and California, where they made many lifelong friends. Larry also enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and going on fishing trips to Canada. Larry passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, two months and four days.

Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara Rieck of Pipestone, Minnesota; his son, Randy Rieck of Rancho Mirage, California; step-children, Kent (Ann) Beadle of Hudson, Wisconsin, Kyle (Shannon) Beadle of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Kimberly (Mike) Sammons of Kearney, Nebraska; grandchildren, Joshua Engel and Nita (Brett) Albrecht; step-grandchildren, Justin Thies, Andrew Beadle, Kathy Beadle, Michele Beadle, Sara (Micah) Yeager; and great-grandchildren, Clara Albrecht and her soon to be baby brother in November 2025; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Bernita Adler; daughter, Lori Engel; his stillborn baby; parents, John and Helen Rieck; sister, Marion Steffe; and his brother, Marvin Rieck.
