Lianne M. Buckmiller

LIANNE MARIE BUCKMILLER was born on July 6, 1956, to Hans A. and Marilyn (Johnson) Holter in Flandreau, South Dakota. She attended the Pipestone School System, graduating in 1974. That summer, she had the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. on a 4-H trip. While there, the group attended a performance at the Kennedy Center when it was announced that President Richard Nixon resigned from his presidency. She was honored to meet Herbert H. Humphrey and Walter Mondale in Washington D.C. and at the Minnesota State Fair. She was a 10-year member of the Gray Livewires 4-H club. In high school, she participated in track and volleyball. She loved playing softball. She bowled on a league for over 20 years. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary for 20 years holding most of the offices in that organization. She attended the Pipestone Area Vocational Technical Institute, graduating in 1975 with a full degree in Commercial Tailoring.

She married John Buckmiller on August 2, 1975. To this union two children were born, Tammy Jo in 1976 and John Ray Anton in 1989. They were divorced in 1996. She had a variety of different jobs, sewing machine operator, worked in grocery stores in the bakery and in the meat department, housekeeper, and worked in fast food restaurants. She had most recently worked as the director of the Pipestone Senior Center prior to her retirement. On Sunday, December 27, 2020, Lianne passed away at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota at the age of 64 years, five months, and 21 days.

Lianne is survived by her two children, Tammy Jo (Buckmiller) Downing and John Ray Anton Buckmiller, both of Pipestone, Minnesota; four grandchildren, including twin granddaughters, Amanda and Katie, David Downing, and Natalie Buckmiller; sister, Helen Holter; niece, Tarra (Tom) Sherrill; nephews, Chad Holter, Ryan Holter, and Sean Holter; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother, Steven; her parents, Hans and Marilyn Holter; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
