Luella Mundahl

September 1, 1933 — October 19, 2020

LUELLA ISABELL (DUNCAN) MUNDAHL was born to James, Sr. and Lorna (Kyrk) Duncan on Friday, September 1, 1933 at the family farm three miles north of Trosky, Minnesota in Elmer Township. Luella was baptized on Sunday, April 1, in Pipestone, Minnesota by Rev. E.C. Reineke of the Pipestone, Trosky Churches. Luella attended the Pipestone High School through the 11th grade and then attended and graduated from Edgerton Public High School in Edgerton, Minnesota. Luella was employed with Pan-O-Gold Bakery at the time. On October 13, 1951, Luella was united in marriage to Merlyn Mundahl of Elkton, South Dakota at the United Methodist Church in Pipestone. They made their home in Watertown, South Dakota for a short time. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1954. During this time Luella was an Avon Representative while raising their children. In 1965, they moved to a farm outside of Pipestone, and soon thereafter they moved one last time into Pipestone where they resided for 50 years. Over the years, Luella continued as an Avon Representative, and also worked at Feckers Produce, Juba’s Supervalu, Lange’s Café, and Bayliner. She also cleaned homes for others. Luella was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deaconess. Lue was also very active with Presbyterian Women, the hospitality committee, and the prayer chain at the church. She served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary for a three year term, was a member of the Extension Club, was a Girl Scout leader in Sioux Falls and Pipestone, and a camp director at the Ihlen Day Camp. She also enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren. Luella was a life-long cookie maker; her favorite cookie holiday was Halloween. She so loved for all the trick-or-treaters to come over through the years. Lue became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on December 17, 2019 and died peacefully there on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 87 years, one month, and 18 days.
Luella is lovingly remembered by her seven children, Diane Carstensen of Pipestone, Jody (Terry) Norling of New Holstein, Wisconsin, Michele (Dan) Ward of Willmar, Minnesota, Penny Trigg (special friend, Easton Thompson) of Pipestone, Kevin (Ronda) Mundahl of Willmar, Lori Ennen (friend, Scott Schering) of Milford, Iowa, and Danny (Patty) Mundahl of Brookings, South Dakota; all of her 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlyn; sons, Greg and Darwin; parents, Jim and Lorna Duncan; and her siblings, Jim and Albert Duncan, Nancy Jane Sletten, and Carol Holbrook; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.
