Lulubeth Stromberg

Lulubeth Stromberg was born to Roy and Dorothy (Schwartz) Backlund on March 12, 1928, in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and began her education. When she was a junior in high school, she moved with her parents to Kenosha, Wisconsin. While living there, she attended Kemper Hall Academy. After her graduation in 1946, she continued her education at Winona Teachers College in Winona, Minnesota for two years. She then went to Miss Woods Kindergarten School for two years and also to Macalester College to complete her degree in education. In June 1951, she was united in marriage to Frank Walker at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone and Lulubeth taught in a country school near Pipestone. The following year, they moved to Camp Rucker, Alabama, and then Fort Benning, Georgia while  Frank served in the National Guard. After his discharge from the service, they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During this time, Lulubeth stayed at home to raise their children. In 1958, they moved to Marshall, Minnesota. Her husband Frank preceded her in death on May 1, 1959. After his death, Lulubeth returned to Pipestone and started teaching kindergarten in Jasper, Minnesota.

In September 1964, she married Marvin Stromberg. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone and she continued to teach in Jasper. Lulubeth, Marvin, and their family loved traveling, camping, playing cards, and fishing. Lulubeth enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her friends.  She was known for her annual Christmas parties.  After Marvin retired, they enjoyed spending their winters in Texas. Lulubeth had an amazing green thumb, could grow many varieties of plants, and loved her garden club. Lulubeth cherished her time with her grandchildren.  When they were young, she cross-stitched a Christmas ornament for each of them every year. She and Marvin also made and painted wooden Christmas ornaments which they sold at craft shows.  Lulubeth was a lifelong member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, Peace Quilters, and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Lulubeth also enjoyed teaching Sunday School.

She is lovingly remembered by her six children and ten grandchildren, Mark (Kathy Kapitan) Walker of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mike (Joyce) Stromberg of Marinette, Wisconsin, their daughter, Samantha Behling (Tyler); Tom (Joan) Walker of Pipestone, Minnesota, their children Sarah Walker, Daniel Walker, Andrea Schelhaas (Bryce), Katherine Richard (Mark); Mark Stromberg of Jasper, Minnesota; Nancy (Jeff) Terry of Pipestone, Minnesota, their children Jacob Terry (Kara), Stacy Lane (Jon), Brian Terry (Samantha); and Marshall (Patty) Stromberg of Mankato, Minnesota; their children Eric Stromberg, Laura Wanie (Taylor);  twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Walker and Marvin Stromberg; her parents; brothers, and their wives Donald (Jane) Backlund and Gib (Glenetta) Backlund.

Lulubeth will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A special thank you to Pastor Velda Maine and the Pipestone County Hospice nurses.
