Marie Frandsine Henriksen was born September 17,1934 to Henrik and Esther (Sorensen) Henriksen near Tyler, Minnesota. After farming various sites in Lincoln County, the family settled in Lake Stay Township. After graduating from Ivanhoe High School, Marie attended and earned a degree in Home Economics from Mankato State College. She taught school in Tracy and Belle Plaine. In 1963, she spent seven months touring Europe, meeting family in Denmark, and doing factory work, manufacturing metal containers. She returned home and began working with University of Minnesota Extension Service for Murray County, in Slayton where she stayed for 28 years. She retired from her extension career in Lincoln County, in May 2000. Marie passed peacefully September 29, 2025, at Prairie Home Hospice, Lockwood House in Marshall, following her 91st birthday.
Marie was a life-long volunteer. A member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco, she served as a council member, WELCA treasurer, Sunday School teacher and service chairperson. She was proud to work with the Senior College at Southwest Minnesota State University where she was on the initial advisory board, taught and attended classes. She was active in the Knights of Knowledge in Ivanhoe and the Lincoln County Horticulture Club. She was an avid reader, family photographer, did needlework and enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and canning. She especially appreciated time spent with family.
Marie is survived by brothers, Tom, Chanhassen, and Niels (Bonnie), Grand Rapids, MN, sister, Elin Krueger, Minnetonka, aunt, Beverly Sorensen, Annandale, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Oda, Ardis, and John and brothers-in-law, Robert Dwire and Leigh Krueger.
Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or SMSU Senior College.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Boulders Memory Care and Prairie Home Hospice, Lockwood House in Marshall where Marie resided and received loving care in the last years of her life.
