Marlis Joan Sleiter

October 14, 1939 — February 25, 2020

MARLIS JEAN SLEITER was born on October 14, 1939 to Alfred and Wendolyn (Nuttle) Krabbenhoft in Pipestone County, Minnesota. She lived with her family and grew up in the Pipestone and Edgerton, Minnesota areas. She attended School in Edgerton, graduating in 1957. In her younger years her family farmed near Hatfield, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Marlin Sleiter on June 8, 1963 at Zion United Methodist Church in Pipestone where they attended until the church closed. After their marriage they moved to a farm near Holland, Minnesota where they lived for a few years. In 1972 they moved west of Pipestone and resided there for a number of years. Marlis held a number of jobs throughout the years including working as a nursing assistant, cooking at the Glass House in Ihlen, Minnesota and at A & W and Lange’s Café in Pipestone. She also cooked pizzas at Casey’s and worked at McDonald’s up until the time when she moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota in 2010. She resided on the same farm place as her son in Lucas Township, near Cottonwood, Minnesota until Thursday, February 20, 2020 when she entered the care of the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. On Monday, February 24 she entered the care of the Granite Falls Health Care Center where she passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the age of 80 years, four months, and 11 days.

In years past, Marlis enjoyed being a part of the Lions Club, 4H, FFA, and raised Registered Angus Cattle. She loved gardening veggies and flowers, sewing, crocheting, and many different types of cooking and baking. She was known for her “Grandma potatoes” (fried potatoes in a cast iron pan) and her “banana” pudding. She had a fairly blunt personality and a good sense of humor. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club throughout many years and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Marlis is lovingly remembered by her two children, Kelly (Randy) Hansen of Marshall, Minnesota, and Mark (Cathryn) Sleiter of Cottonwood; six grandchildren, Neal (Tiffany) Hansen, Betsy (Jace) Harwood, Cody, Cal (fiancé, Cassie Mages), Carson, and Yasha Sleiter; and four great-grandchildren, Levi and Brynnley Hansen, and Maverick and Beau Harwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Marlin.
