Marlys T. Haecherl was born on July 19, 1935 to Frank and Harriet (Hillquist) Thorson in Tracy, Minnesota. She was raised and attended school, graduating from Tracy High School. On July 1, 1957 she was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Anderson. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and adopted three daughters, Teresa, Maria, and Amy. Marlys loved raising their daughters and caring for the home. Once the girls had all entered school, Marlys went back to college to get her associate’s degree in secretarial school. She worked for a number of years as a secretary at various businesses in the Sioux Falls area. Ted passed away in 1997. Marlys continued living in Sioux Falls until marrying Norbert “Norb” Haecherl at St. Joseph Cathedral on January 9, 1999. The couple made their home in North Carolina for the next 19 years. Norb passed away in 2017. Marlys then moved to Luverne, Minnesota to be closer to her daughter, Teresa. In late 2020, she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, she passed away peacefully at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 88 years, two months and 16 days.

 

Marlys was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. She enjoyed homemaking, cooking, baking and needlecrafts, and was an avid reader. She was very passionate and loving to her family.

 

Marlys is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Anderson of Luverne, and Maria Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three step-children, Millie Haecherl of Charlotte, North Carolina, Zane (Stephanie) Haecherl of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Joel (Lana) Haecherl of Charolotte; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Randi (Jeff) Beyer of Delano, Minnesota; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by two husbands; daughter, Amy Anderson; parents; and sister, Karen Hanson.
