Marvel Foster

Marvel Foster passed away on Saturday September 19, 2026 at the age of 86 at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota while under hospice care.

Marvel Faye (Behnke) Foster was born on May 22, 1940, on a farm near Hale, Iowa. She was raised in Olin, Iowa with five brothers and one sister.

At a young age, Marvel married Jim Hartwig, having two children, Jim Hartwig and Louise Riggs. After a short marriage ending in divorce, Marvel then married Ezra "Bill" Foster, having five children: Deborah (Mark) Schumann, William "Buddy" Foster, Viola (Marlin) Van Meeteren, Theresa Burmeister, and Anna Foster. They were married until his death in May of 1993.

Marvel spent her last years at Good Samaritan Society in Pipestone, Minnesota, where she enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Bingo.

Marvel is survived by two sons, Jim (Terese) Riggs and William "Buddy" Foster; daughters, Viola (Marlin) Van Meeteren, and Anna Foster; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Viola (Olson) Behnke; husband, Bill; daughters, Louise Riggs, Deborah Schumann, and Theresa Burmeister; brothers, Walter, Wilbur, Warren, Merlin, and Larry; and sister, Lorraine Switzer.

Marvel's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Good Samaritan and the Pipestone County Medical Center for the kindness and care they provided for Marvel's comfort.
